More Information

Although our love for Mother Earth should extend beyond a single day, we took this earth day as an opportunity to give back to our planet. This Earth Day, we hosted a beautification project at Duncan U. Fletcher High School. With over 50 volunteers and $1000 in donations coming into the event, from Ace Hardware, Lowes, Maple Street Biscuit Company, Angies Subs, Walmart, and Home Depot, we were able to have a wonderful time and transform our campus.

JGCC Pop Up Recycling Event 11/13/21

We are excited to announce that we had a successful 2nd "pop up" recycling drop-off event in the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club community, completely free of charge. On Saturday, November 13th, we accepted recycling at the neighborhood park from 10 A.M. to 12 noon.

Here are the results;

  • over 25 families visited our drop off site via golf cart, car and bike
  • approximately 2,500 cubic feet of recyclable materials were secured and brought to be recycled
  • We visited 5 families directly to their door to pick up their recyclable items
  • Thank you to Lowes for donating recycling bins and Uhaul for donating the truck

Our mission is to step up and fill the void since the City has stopped curbside recycling and  to ensure that recyclable material is being deposited in the proper location, instead of ending up with trash in a landfill.

Furthermore, we hope to encourage recycling within the local community and emphasize the expanding significance recycling has in our world.

Recycling Tips

Recycling Do's & Don'ts

In order to help keep true recyclable items from not being put back in the dump ( which happens if any materials are found in your batch of recycling that don't belong, the whole bag becomes a wash) So please follow this quick guide of do's and don'ts when sorting items for recycling.

  • Fluorescent Bulbs and tubes are considered hazardous materials. Residents can dispose of these items at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at no charge. The Facility is located at 2675 Commonwealth Avenue.
  • Metals can go to your local scrap yards- some give you cash $ on the spot
  • Used Car Seats in good condition can be donated to local thrift stores
  • Used Appliances can be listed on Facebook Marketplace and some repairmen use them for parts and will pick up for free
  • Pizza boxes will not be recycled if they have food stains, so tear off the top and recycle the clean piece
  • Shopping bags can be recycled at local grocery stores: Walmart and Publix
  • Batteries can be recycled at Home Improvement Stores
  • Coffee Bags can be recycled in some Coffee Shops- ie: Lucky Goat & Starbucks
  • TV's and Electronics can be brought for free to the Hazardous Waste Facility located at 2675 Commonwealth Ave. Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm
